What follows below is a story I wrote on Baker in 1999, based on an interview with the Ginger Baker, one of the most innovative and influential drummers in rock music, has died at the age of 80. Of course, anyone familiar with Cream will realize that he was among rock's jazziest drummers, but his series of records with Bill Frisell convinced many doubters of his musical merit.
